Can I go for it?
Some students have a natural flair to learn languages. If you are one of them you could choose to go for this career. There are various opportunities once you master a language. Some of you may be already familiar with Portuguese – why not learn it to perfection. You could also choose French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese Korean or Japanese.
Is there a future in this field?
Someone said that the world has now become one big Village. Indeed as transportation and communication worldwide has improved considerably in the last few years- trade and travel has become so much easier than ever before.
India is also growing in International stature with Make in India our slogan many companies want to set up base here. So the more the Interpreters and translators we have the better for employment openings.
Where do I start?
In Goa:
You could opt for French or Portuguese in Class X / XII as also graduation programs and Post graduation programs through Goa University.
Besides there are many good Institutes that teach Languages. e.g. Alliance France Panaji.
There is also the Indo-Portuguese Friendship Society and the Indo-German Friendship Society that teach Portuguese and German respectively.
Outside Goa:

Please do not be satisfied with just acquiring a Degree/Diploma – try and enhance your CV by doing online learning programs (with a certificate) of programs relevant to your choice of career. Your chances of employment will be much better than just a plain degree/diploma.
