Cargolux recently honored ground services company LUG Aircargo Handling with a Dangerous Goods Awareness Award. This new annual initiative by Cargolux highlights the critical importance of meticulous and compliant handling of dangerous goods.
“It is the ground handler’s duty to ensure that all relevant checks are conducted and any irregularities reported promptly, guaranteeing that only correctly packed, labeled, and documented shipments are transported,” states a Cargolux spokesperson.
Throughout 2012, LUG was notably effective in identifying and reporting incorrectly documented and mislabeled shipments, particularly those containing lithium batteries. This vigilance helped Cargolux comply with air regulations and minimize the residual risks associated with the transport of dangerous goods.
Dangerous Goods
Amazon has been found guilty by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of violating air navigation rules. Between January 2014 and June 2015, the company transported dangerous goods, including lithium-ion batteries and aerosols, in unmarked packages into and out of Britain.
The prosecution of dangerous goods found in Amazon UK Services Ltd shipments was pursued by the CAA under the Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 2002. This regulation outlines the proper handling of dangerous goods during air transport, including their classification, packing, marking, labeling, documentation, and required training for personnel involved in their shipment.
