Chemist

What is the job all about?

A Chemist performs chemical analyses of inorganic and organic samples to determine their composition, reactions, and properties. This work is primarily conducted in a laboratory using various instruments and equipment, such as spectroscopes, pressure and temperature recording devices, desiccators, balances, and a range of reagents like acids and alkalines.

Chemists are responsible for identifying standard solution indicators to assess the composition, strength, or compliance of substances with established standards. They also determine the presence or absence of specific elements within samples.

Can I go for it?
If you have a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and a passion for experimentation and analysis, a career as a chemist could be a great fit. To pursue this path, a degree in Chemistry is essential.

Key skills and knowledge required include:
• Proficiency in conducting chemical analyses to assess the composition, reactions, and properties of both inorganic and organic samples.
• Ability to perform tests and experiments on substances such as metals, acids, salts, and gases.
• Understanding the properties and behaviors of various chemicals.
• Expertise in laboratory techniques, including distillation, evaporation, filtration, and ion detection.
• Knowledge of technical research methodologies.
• Familiarity with laboratory instruments, apparatus, and reagents.
• Competence in identifying standard solution indicators to evaluate composition, strength, and adherence to standards.
• Ability to determine the presence or absence of specific elements.

Is there a future in this field?
Chemists have diverse opportunities, particularly within chemical and petrochemical companies across India. Potential roles include:
• Analytical Chemist
• Lab Chemist
• Research Chemist

Salary Expectations:
• Freshers: ₹15,500 to ₹18,000 per month
• With 2-3 years of experience: ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month
