What is the job all about?
A Desk Top Publishing Operator (DTP) essentially produces printed material after the page lay-out, style of text, size and graphics have been sorted out e.g. brochures, forms, ads etc. He has to ensure that the layout is per specifications laid down.
Can I go for it?
If you like to be in the printing business and enjoy seeing various varieties of print works carried out –then you will like this job. You will need to learn various types of graphic arts techniques. Should be well versed in typesetting. Should have the ability in printing material in various formats i.e. newsletter, brochures, advertisement, etc. Knowledge of aesthetic standards, layout specifications of graphic designer etc. Knowledge of DTP software. Proficient in operating automatic film developer to process photographs. Knowledge of assembling artwork into paste-up. Knowledge of Page Maker, Coral Draw, Photoshop, etc.
Is there a future in this filed?
Modern day Computer business is in a constant change mode. Technology is improving so rapidly that one has to be adept in learning the new technologies that keep coming up.If one can do that then this field is quite a challenging one.Besides this one need to have good communication skills and creative.

At the start around Rs. 7500/-p.m and later on between 10-15000 pm.
Please do not be satisfied with just acquiring a Degree/Diploma – try and enhance your CV by doing online learning programs (with a certificate) of programs relevant to your choice of career. Your chances of employment will be much better than just a plain degree/diploma.
