Devi Prasad Shetty is an Indian cardiac surgeon. He is chairman and Founder Narayana Health Hospitals, a chain of 21 medical centers in India. After completing his degree in Medicine and post-graduate work in General Surgery, he trained in cardiac surgery in the United Kingdom.
He performed the first neonatal heart surgery in the country on a 9-day-old baby named “Ronnie” in 1992 a successful operation in medical history. In Kolkata he operated on Mother Teresa after she had a heart attack and subsequently served as her personal physician.He moved to Bangalore and started the Manipal Heart Foundation, Bangalore.
He has performed over 15,000 heart operations. He was awarded the Padma Shri, followed by the Padma Bhushan, The heart hospital is the largest in the world with 1000 beds performing over 30 major heart surgeries a day.

What is the Job all about?
It is a highly service driven profession that attracts, by its nature, fairly good returns. Hard work and long working hours are quite normal. The Doctor’s profession is a continuous process of hard work and study and it does not end after 5½ years MBBS. The next step is MD (Master of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery). This takes another 2-3 years of hard work. Or alternatively you can go for a Diploma which takes 2 years. In the Diploma field, there are some 30 courses available. Under the Degree program, there are 38 subjects available. Here again, there is an Entrance Examination which is quite tough, due to limited number of seats available and the high number of applicants interested. For instance, in Nephrology there are only 23 seats.

Compassion, hard-work, long hours of study are the main ingredients to this profession.Students may compete for the 150 seats in Goa(General category) offered by the Goa Medical College based on the All India NEET entrance test. The candidate must pass 10+2 examination of Goa Board of Higher Secondary Examination or its equivalent examination from a recognized Board, with a minimum of 50% marks in Biology, Physics and Chemistry in aggregate, along with English,in a single attempt. In case of SC/ST and OBC candidates, a minimum of 40% marks is sufficient.

What is the Job all about?
BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5½ year program including Internship of one year.
According to Ayurveda, Life is a combination of senses – mind, body and soul. It believes that human beings and nature should be in perfect harmony. Disease occurs when the balance between the two is disturbed. Getting balance back through use of nature and its products is what Ayurveda is all about. Ayurveda emphasizes that ‘Prevention is better than cure’, so while one is being treated for an ailment, simultaneously care is taken to avoid its recurrence.
Natural herbs and minerals are used for preparing medicines. Purification and detoxification, dietary changes and body massages are used to promote health, and prevent and treat illness.

HOMEOPATHY
This is a holistic medical therapy which treats a person rather than the disease. The thinking is that all the three elements (i.e. Body, Mind and Spirit) of a person are affected when he falls sick and, therefore,all the three elements have to be treated at the same time.
Education:
After 10 + 2 in PCB you need to pass the G-CET for the Degree Program.
HOMOEOPATHY (DEGREE COURSE) B.H.M.S. This Course is of five and half years duration, including compulsory Internship of one year duration after passing the final Degree examination
Alternatively you could do the Diploma Program in Homeopathy – HOMOEOPATHY (DIPLOMA COURSE) D.H.M.S.This Course is of four years duration, including compulsory Internship of six months.
The third version of study is the HOMOEOPATHY (GRADED DEGREE COURSE) B.H.M.S. BHMS Graded Degree Course is over a period of two years including compulsory Internship of six months duration after passing the final Degree examination.This Course has been recommended as a bridge or link to short term course for the benefit of diploma holders to raise their educational level to that of degree.
