There are as many as 19 different disciplines to choose from for Std. X students and 3 Programs for Std. XII students. There is scope, if you are really the person who loves to work on various machines or in the catering field or in retail pharmacy operations, food technology, fashion designing, or as an architectural assistant.

Admission Procedure:

  1. Engineering Courses: Candidate must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the SSC (Std. X) or equivalent examination (45% marks for SC/ST/OBC) in one and the same sitting with Science, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects.
  2. Hotel Management & Catering Technology/MOP: Candidate must have secured a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate in the HSSC (Science/Commerce/Arts/Vocational) or equivalent examination in one and the same sitting.
  3. Garment Technology: Candidate must have secured a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate in the SSC (Std. X) (35% for ST/ SC/ OBC) in one and same sitting, with Science, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects.
  4. Pharmacy: Candidate must have secured a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate in the HSSC (Science) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Since the year 1997-98, the Government has introduced a Centralized Admission System for the various courses in all the Government Polytechnics in Goa. Under the Multi Point Entry Exit Credit System (MPEECS), students having higher qualification than S.S.C, like students of Vocational stream, can seek admission directly. A separate prospectus giving details of this admission channel is available with the Directorate of Technical Education.

 

Can you do a degree Program after you complete a Diploma Program?
Yes, you can decide to go for an Engineering Degree on completion of the Diploma Program. There are several routes to do this. AMIE is one option.

 

Employment Avenues
There is a tremendous shortage of skilled Technicians in Industry and allied fields. So the scope for trained and skilled people is excellent.

 

Money
After successfully passing your Diploma, you could start as a Trainee Supervisor with a salary of around Rs. 5,000 – 7500/- p.m. This then goes up Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- p.m. with experience and, more importantly, getting results i.e. through manpower control and following strict schedules of maintenance and production. But the best thing to do is to strive for higher qualification; which gives you further opportunities to grow technically and financially.

 

Please do not be satisfied with just acquiring a Degree/Diploma – try and enhance your CV by doing online learning programs (with a certificate) of programs relevant to your choice of career. Your chances of employment will be much better than just a plain degree/diploma.
