A visual communications professional works with concepts. He uses his skills to refine the ideas and then through technical means like 3-d or 2-d modelling, images and graphics, or symbols, he transforms this idea into reality which can be presented in front of the target audience. Digital imaging skills and software tools are employed for bringing the visual appeal.
Visual communication course is a creative process that blends art and technology to communicate ideas and information. A visual designer works with an array of communication mediums and tools in order to convey message to audience
The visual communication field should not be confused with Graphic Designing which is essentially more limited that Visual communication. In Visual Communication you learn graphic design, illustration, animation, photography, and even the modification, or airbrushing, of photographs to better illustrate a given point. Available career paths include graphic design, professional photography or retouching, illustration and professional animation, advertising, website design, and visual marketing departments.Concentrations do include graphic design, but also include digital animation, professional digital photography, animation, computer illustration, mixed visual media, and advertising.
The key thing to remember about graphic design, especially when compared to visual communication, is that it’s a narrow, highly specialized field that focuses only on the creation of key graphics for a broader advertising campaign, website, or print materials.
